A huge part of turning my life around is going to involve getting on top of my finances. I have been receiving a decent income for a while now, but I’ve been too impulsive and irresponsible to have done anything of value with it. Looking back at all the money I’ve spent on drugs, takeaways and impulsive purchases is sickening. I could have decorated and furnished my flat by now just with the money I’ve spent on weed. No more.
From today I am going to be more responsible with my money. I’m going to take note of all my income/expenses and start allocating budgets to certain aspects of my life that I have to stick to. I’m going to track down all my outstanding debts, and allocate a portion of my income to clearing them.
I am also going to be detoxing from all unhealthy coping mechanisms and sources of dopamine. I know myself well enough by now to know I can’t just cut the weed completely, but I’m mature enough to limit myself to smoking only after 4pm, and drastically reducing the amount I smoke, and buy.
This is another post I’ll be editing/updating constantly.
Current steps in place:
- No longer buying alcohol at all
- Drastically reducing cannabis use
- Cutting down nicotine use with the goal of removing it completely
- Limiting myself to one takeout per week
- No more impulse purchases
- Allocating budgets to certain aspects of my life and sticking to them (Food, pet stuff, travel, household, etc)
- Cancelling any unnecessary subscriptions
- Rather than spending every penny I get as I get it, anything left over outside of budgets will go to savings or investing in further income
Future Goals
Ultimately my goal is to be financially independent. I want to be able to sign off benefits and pay my own way in life. I don’t honestly see myself ever being mentally capable of going back to work, but if I can find a way to make a stable income working for myself, that would be ideal.
Ideas so far:
- 3d Printing (Currently waiting for a printer to be delivered, hoping to figure out a way to turn it into regular income)
- 3d Modelling (selling models)
- Resin Art
- Woodworking
- Get back into web development/freelancing
- Crafts (Jewellery making, cards, etc)
- Develop my own herbal smoking blend
- Making Music (Figure out how to make money from it instead of it just being a hobby)
